Mid-Week Update 10/3/22

Time Change for Safe Mode Drill

The drill will now take place at 9:50 am. Due to the incident at Burke High School yesterday, all school leaders are expected to join a meeting regarding active shooters from 10-11 am. Planning/Facilities was here at the school and will be looking to fix doors that are not closing properly or touching the floor and will look to place bars on all the doors.  

Professional Development

The goal is to start PD today at 3:45. PD today is not intended for paraprofessionals but paraprofessionals are more than welcome to attend, participate and collaborate with their grade-level team. 

Open House/Curriculum Night: 

Open House will take place next Tuesday, October 11 from 5-6:30. Food will be provided for staff and will be prepared by Ms. Centeio. Surf and Turf as requested. More information to come as to what the dish will be. 


Expectations of Staff and Paras:

  • Go over the major units and topics that will be covered this year in both Math and ELA.

  • Share resources and online learning platforms and how to access them. 

  • Expectations for the classroom.

  •  Attendance policy, Homework policy, grading policy etc

  • A day in the life of a student in that classroom 

  • 6-6:30 is more for parents to mingle and communicate with organizations and partners 

  • Food is provided for staff only. 

  • Share slides/presentations with families who do not attend

*CHANGE: first presentations at 5pm and then second presentation at 5:30pm to accommodate families with siblings. 

MAP Family Communication and Reporting - Fall 2022: 

Beginning this year, BPS families will receive their student's MAP results after each test window. Fall 2022 reports will be sent to families the week of Oct. 10th. See 'Toolkit' for more information.

Some teachers have asked if there was a way for them to take the MAP test to better understand the platform and how it assess students:

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Let’s recognize the value of teaching truths and honoring the rich diversity of our nation’s history. As we take the weekend to rest (party) may we also celebrate the many contributions of this land’s Native and Indigenous people.
