Volunteers:

Today, we should have about three volunteers coming from Jumpstart. They should be here until about 2-3 pm. If you need support in your classroom please let me know. If not, I will have them break down boxes and work on getting butcher paper up on the bulletin boards around the building and start organizing and cleaning the teacher’s lounge, and/or check the Chromebooks for damage. Read below for more information.

Closet/Storage Flooded:

Unfortunately, on Friday, during the heavy rain, the closet on the first floor by the main entrance was flooded. Somehow, it appears rain was coming in through the vent at the far end of the closet. Something must have been blown up or off on the roof. Unfortunately, this is where the Chromebooks are being stored. At this moment in time, we do not know the significant damage that has been done to the Chromebooks and how it will impact classes/students. I have reached out to OIIT and made them aware of the situation. We will assess the damage by the end of the week and report our findings. Worst-case scenario, if there are many Chromebooks found to be damaged, we will prioritize the upper grades for the beginning of the year with Chromebooks and then work down the grades and classrooms.

Bee Hive

As of now, the Bee Hive project has been put on hold by the district. However, we will be meeting on Monday to discuss the concerns and next steps. Hopefully, this will be an opportunity that will allow us to pave the way for many other schools in Boston to obtain a Bee Hive as well. We strongly believe that this will be a great learning experience for our students.

Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT)

We have a subscription to Teachers Pay Teachers. My hope is that this resource will be used to augment your curriculum/materials you are using in the classroom, homework and for 3 days of relevant work/assignments in teachers’ subfolders. All classroom and specialist teachers should have received an email from. If you did not receive an email, please let me know. If you are not a classroom/special teacher and would like access to TpT, please let me know as well.

The subscription gives access to thousands of resources and even allows you to assign assignments to students online. I am working on scheduling a PD with TpT so we could learn about all the features and access all the components of this package.

Condition of Building and Floors:

All classroom floors at this point have been cleaned and polished. Next week, before the start of school, all classrooms will be mopped to clean the dirt and dust particles from the repairs that occurred.

I believe all windows have been replastered and painted except one classroom. We are trying to get Facility on it. Furthermore, the damage that was fixed to the window may return again due to rain and/or humidity. One way to help alleviate this is by keeping windows closed before you leave.

Openings/Updates:

ABA Classroom:

The positions for the ABA classes were posted over the weekend. So far, we have received 3 applications. If you would like to be a part of the hiring process/committee, please let me know.

Secretary:

On Wednesday, the post will come down and then the Guild office will provide us with a list of candidates by seniority. It is my understanding that we will be able to interview candidates but we really can’t steer away from the list of candidates/process. For example, if the most senior is not qualified, we will have to make a strong case for why it is not a good fit but that might not move the needle. At the moment, I am working with the office to get a substitute until we can formally hire a new secretary.
